How far in advance should I apply for a Schengen visa?
Apply at least 3 weeks before travel and no earlier than 6 months before entry. During peak seasons — summer and Christmas — embassies face much higher volumes. Aim for 4–6 weeks lead time to be safe.
Does processing time include weekends and public holidays?
Processing times are in calendar days, but embassies do not work weekends or national holidays. An embassy quoting "10 business days" can mean 14+ calendar days. Always add a buffer — which this tool already does.
What if my visa is not ready before my travel date?
If you applied on time and the embassy has not returned it, contact the consulate directly. If you applied late, you may need to consider rebooking. Travel insurance only covers trip cancellation for visa refusals, not for self-imposed late applications.
Can I apply for multiple visas at the same time?
Yes — and for multi-destination trips you should. Most consulates want your passport for physical stamping, so plan the sequence carefully. Use the Trip Planner tool to see the correct application order across multiple destinations.
Is eVisa processing time guaranteed?
No. eVisa portals give an estimated time but make no guarantees. During busy periods processing can take twice as long. Always submit well ahead of your deadline and track your application status through the official portal.
